RESEARCH at IISc

well...
blogging is not my passion.. :P
But I was forced to write this blog, after knowing what actually research is and how well it is carried out at IISc's(the 3 INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCES) in INDIA.
mmm..u ppl might think how do this guy know all these things about?. From my friend SANTHOSH, I came to know that IISc offers 2 months summer research programme for UG's,we both applied for the same and got selected. So now 'm in IISc where i got a chance to do some research and to know what exactly research is???
Initially I was very much afraid to come to IISc, "how the professors would be?,can I easily get adjusted to the environment and the brainy ppl around me?".As I entered into IISc found everything to be different.Professors and the Phd guys really help the young students a lot.The environment and style of education around here is totally different from the way how education is in all the other colleges and schools.
Here ppl don't study for sake of examinations or for so called GPA's.They only study to improve knowledge, deduce, discover and to invent new things. They know only one thing research..research..research...Here we don't have any time limit to work in lab. You can stay 24 hrs in lab, no one questions you, no one asks you to leave the lab.The environment in campus makes you to work for 24 hrs without getting bored.
As far as my summer research is concerned, we are provided with a task which is not existing and we have to reach destination of the task if possible, many ppl were not able to complete their tasks, as 2 months is merely insufficient to carry out research as it takes more than a month to understand the job exactly and to go through the literature and papers related to the job. Many people tried their best in completing the project and of course the exceptional brainies done their job. Many people from different parts of INDIA came here(most of them from IIT's and NIT's). We people had good wrap-out with each other which helped to improve our knowledge and learn something even-though many of us were unable to complete our tasks.
Finally to finish it off, to say we ppl are very lucky to be here, and people who have read this blog, try to get into IISc for some degree else atleast try for some Internship, which helps you ppl a lot and for sure I promise that you ppl find many changes in your life, attitude, confidence levels if you join IISc's, and hope many people show interest towards research in future.

  1. ya bro !
u are write ! but the thing is that , if a person has a excellent knowledge on the work he wish to do and awsm interest then ,
i am sure that he can do somthing within 2 months of time !
and IISC is such a place that we should go there to do some thing , not to learn !
if we do so ( i mean learning at iisc) then there wont be any diffrence between IISC and SCSVMV university !
i hope u agree with the above discussion !
    -------
after all , the only thing i want to say abt is :
if a guy is very much intrested on some task , then the duration of months , days , years dosent matter to him !!!

  4. @santu:ya i agree with u a bit.. if the work to be done is too large, then obviously limited time is not sufficient...n i guess u know dat research is nt a small task.. n ofcourse hope u remember which u've mentioned me once in IISc dat we r doin research not project.
